Family Therapy

Therapy and counselling that moves lives forward.

For families that are facing difficulties, I am here to offer professional help and guidance. Sometimes children or families become locked in ways of relating. Family therapy can help them move forwards to renewed healthier and happier relationships. Families in trauma also have quite specific needs and here therapeutic interventions can have a powerful effect.

How I Work With Families

I work with many types of family issues. Often, these focus on children presenting difficult or troubling behaviours, such as autistic spectrum disorders and anxiety. However, I also work with families as a whole, including adult families experiencing breakdowns in their relationships. As a multi-systemic therapist my methods will include a range of therapies varying from play therapy to DDP (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy) – level 2, this will be tailored to the individual families’ needs.

Where children are experiencing attachment-related difficulties, I will often work with the child, parents or carers, schools and any social teams involved. Working in this coordinated way means that the child has a whole ‘therapeutic team’, and is more likely to progress.

Specialist Help With Attachment Issues

Having worked extensively with children and families in trauma, one of my areas of specialism is attachment. Formed in our early years, attachment patterns heavily influence our later relationships and way of seeing the world.

Where children have experienced attachment issues, I work with the whole family and other agencies to help the child reframe what are often fragmented feelings and thoughts. Strategies of managing the child are discussed with all parties, and support given with any secondary problems that the child’s behaviour may cause.
